Bhaktapur. What does a PhD student might be doing? Many can be answered, by doing a prestigious job. But 40 years old, an Engineer Krishna Bhakta Duwal, resident of Bhaktapur Municipality Ward No. 10 Thalachhen has been doing research on tomato farming. He now earns his living by cultivating tomato in modern tunnel technology in the field of Nhati of Changunarayan Municipality Ward No. 2 of the district. He is doing PhD in Resources and Environmental Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology at Hubei Province, China. He went to Wuhan, China in September 2018 for his PhD. While there, he has completed his major credit courses for two years. Before the January 23, lockdown started in Wuhan, China, he returned to Nepal on January 12 to do research on the use of a novel organic fertilizer invented by his professor Zeng De Feng at his university after 15 years of continual research. Following the advice of his Chinese professor, he is doing research on the implementation of using this fertilizer in Nepal's climate and soil for tomato farming. I go to the tomato farm once a day, he said, but now I can't digest my food before I go to the tomato farm. When he reaches the field, he does things like spraying novel organic fertilizer and caring the plants. He not only cultivates but also collects data required for his research.

Engineer Duwal also takes class to the students of Environmental Science for their Master's Degree in Environmental Science at Khwopa College Dekocha in Bhaktapur. Prior to this, he was working as an Assistant Professor at Nepal Engineering College, Duwakot, Changunarayan from 2007 to 2014. In particular, he is currently pursuing a PhD on the effects of the Novel Organic Fertilizer in Nepali crops, invented by his professor at China's Wuhan University of Technology after 15 years. "My Chinese professor was in Nepal with me last year when issues were raising that the poisonous vegetable had entered Nepal from India," said Engineer Duwal. According to his Chinese professor, more than ten students have done PhD in this fertilizer under his supervision, but this is for the first time that they are using the novel organic fertilizer in Nepal as research work, said Engineer Duwal. In China, his professor claims that the invention of novel orgnic fetilizer is the second revolution in organic fertilizer after the agricultural revolution. The characteristic of this fertilizer is that it is free from pesticides and it yields more crops. In addition to it, the use of novel organic fertilizer also increases the taste of fruits and enhances the quality of soil. Engineer Duwal, who has visited China more than 20 times so far and spent two years in China, pointed out the need to improve Nepal's agriculture. Duwal said that his professor had encouraged him to import the fertilizer from China in the beginning and produce it in Nepal if the fertilizer will be used successfully in Nepal. He reminds that his professor has assured him to give his patent for making the same novel organic fertilizer in Nepal in near future.
