Professor Sabitri Tripathi
Department of Science and Humanities of Nepal Engineering College(nec)visited Imperial College London(ICL)from May14-22, 2022by the invitation of Prof. Michael Templeton, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Imperial College London to attend his Inaugural Lecture at Imperial College London and to give “Vote of Thanks” at the end of his Lecture which was on May18, 2022.
Prof. Michael Templetonwas involved in a project”Development of appropriate safe drinking water and sanitation system for slums and squatters in Nepal” under DelPHE program of DFID/British Council which was led by Prof. Sabitri Tripathi at Nepal Engineering College during 2007-2010. Since then Prof. Tripathi has been involved with Prof. Templeton for different successful research collaborations along with the students of nec and ICL. Till date his 2 PhD. Students, 9Masters students including one undergraduate students were completed their studies taking  Nepal case studies for their research on water and sanitation related areas where Prof. Tripathi was involved as a researcher and field supervisor and co- produced  publications  with Prof. Templeton. He was also Visiting Professor at nec  and provided research -trainings to nec faculty and students.  He has promoted to Professor during 2018 and it is the culture in UK, once anybody promoted to professor, they have to give Inaugural lecture to the public about their success ladder and the future plan. As one of the brilliant research collaborator of  Prof. Templeton, he invited Prof. Tripathi to give “Vote of Thanks” at the end of his lecture.
Prof. Tripathi in her “Vote of Thanks” speech, said that it is more challenging for being women academic specially in the developing countries like Nepal. She informed that Prof. Michael Templeton is her mentor who taught her to develop her research career and provided every help when needed for her academic enhancement. Prof. Michael Templeton is such a personality who is continuously working in water and sanitation sector to improve the lives of poor and marginalized people though there is no glory in this sector but can change and save the lives of millions of people in the world with limited basic facilities of water and sanitation.Prof. Templeton in his Inaugural speech said that his first international research collaborationin water and sanitation sectorevolved with Prof. Tripathi who was one of the brilliant research collaborators of him. The program was attended by faculty, students, academics/delegates from ICL and different institutions. She had also attended Inaugural Dinner where only limited people were invited.
During Prof. Tripathi’s visit to Imperial College London, the International Relation Officer Mr. Alex Page presented to Prof. Tripathi on “Opportunities for greater Imperial and Nepal engagement”.
Similarly, Prof. Tripathi had given a seminar to the Ph.D./Masters’ students and faculty of Imperial College London about the sustainable sanitation and groundwater pollution research  taking Gulariya, Nepal  case study where she is currently involved as a researcher.
Michael R. Templeton is Professor of Public Health Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London and the Oxfam and Water For People / Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Global Sanitation Technology. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and has served on strategic advisory groups and technical review panels for the World Health Organization, the UK Research and Innovation Global Challenges Research Fund, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Swedish Research Council. He has conducted research and co-authored publications with partners in a number of countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire, Sénégal, Bénin, India, and Nepal. He is also Co-Chair of Imperial College London's Global Development Hub.
According to QS ranking of 2021, Imperial College London is ranked as sixth best institute in the world.
